The city of Plymouth has planned a citywide test on August 6 of their Alert Plymouth system. The system pushes out information to residents and businesses in an emergency.
The test also takes place on the annual Night to Unite.
“So we will be visiting with a 160 different neighborhood parties across the city,” explains Plymouth Public Safety Director Mike Goldstein. “With that, we will be testing out our Alert Plymouth system which has been in place now for the last four years or so.”
Goldstein says the test will give them a chance to make sure the system is operational and it is a reminder to community members to sign up if they wish to do so.
About Alert Plymouth
Alert Plymouth is able to call, text or email residents. It also allows the city to inform the public of community-wide and localized emergencies.
The city of Plymouth launched Alert Plymouth in 2015. Then, all landline phone numbers listed in the White and Yellow Pages were added to the Alert Plymouth system. But the city did not have a database of cell phone numbers or email addresses to add.
If you subscribe, you are asked to include your address, so the system can geographically notify you of an emergency near your home or business.
The system is not used to relay weather forecasts or information about city events or news. The city says Alert Plymouth is only used to issue public safety and emergency messages. All information provided is confidential.
